Thoughts on a Movie No. 19

Underworld Awakening... Or as I like to call it VR:UA:3D-WvsV4 (Vengence Returns: Underworld Awakening: 3 Dimensional - Werewolves Vs. Vampires 4). While me and my movie going mate (CDL) were concerned with the fact that this was the forth installment of a series, we both for the most part remembered nothing of... I took comfort in the assumtion that the filmmaker would catch us up in the beginning with some kind of time-lapsed vignette. I was right. It's gotten to the point where you can't even see a sequel to a film without one of these now. Think about it, they even do it for television shows that you saw the week before... They all start with "Last week on... (in my case "Pregnant in Heels") then they give you the recap of what things of "importance" you may have forgotten in the last few days. But I digress, this is in fact a review of VR:UA:3D-WvsV4. Going in I definitely had a feeling of excitement brewing deep... deep inside my plums. I always liked these movies even the 3rd one when the swapped KB (Kate Beckensale) out with some poor man's doppelganger of her, but it worked for me, and I assumed this would too. And it did for the most part. My initial problem with seeing a movie in 3D is that it always seems to serve as a distraction from the rest of the cinematic experience. I find it hard to focus on the storyline, I get dizzy, throw up violently and usually end up peeing a little or even bleeding at times. From what I can remember, it seems as though since the last time we saw KB in her leather dominatrix get up, she was involved in some kind of stand off with the Vampire police and it ended with her and "Michael" (the Vampire/Lycan halfbreed) getting blowed up underwater. She awakes 12 years later from a coma in a lab, in a world where the humans have all but eradicated the Vampire and Lycan population... Sorry, I have to push my glasses up on my nose sometimes when I'm typing, they're taped together in the center and they never stay up... Now let me slurp up a little bit of this extra saliva that's been collecting in my retainer... and we're good. SO, all the Lycans and Vampires have gone into hiding after the "Purification" or whatever kind of Holocaustic metaphor they're trying to use. We soon find out after her escape from the lab she was being held in, that she now has a halfbreed female bastard of a child to take care of, because her stupid "invincible" boyfriend from the last one couldn't stay alive. The Lycans want this little girl and will stop at nothing to get her. She's the only living halfbreed in existence and apparently she's like the key to everything, more powerful than any Vampire or Lycan. Which begs the question, if she can just rip werewolves heads in half (like she does in the first like 20 minutes of the movie)... Why doesn't she just do it the hole time and work these Lycans? Anyway, I've probably said too much, I'll put a spoiler alert at the top of this post in case you haven't seen it. I Don't know why you wouldn't have, unless you're some kind of god-damned idiot. But the rest of the movie is pretty "Underworldie", yeah, that's a good way to put it. The 3D was pretty cool at times, but again, the whole technology still feels a little forced and not necessary, I'd rather just watch an HD version I think. The violence was gratuitous, which is something I can appreciate and the Werewolves looked pretty sweet. Most of the Vampires were total pussies tho. I don't think I'm alone when I say that I think the idea of a Vampire needs to be re-"Vamped" from what it has become. No more dainty hipster vampires in leather Prada jackets. I liked the direction of "30 Days of Night" or the more recent remake of "Fright Night". Just straight killers, without a fashion sense or any kind of a conscience, pure killing psychopaths.

Since these movies hold a special place in my Nerd/Heart I'll give it 3.97 dethmarx out of 5. ( and most of that was due to the scene where she rips the Lycans head in half... that was radical.)

I was driving home tonight and found myself slightly too high... I had a thought, and I really don't know where it came from, but the words and image of "hipster cop" popped into my brain head. I thought about it for a minute and tried to imagine that this must be a real thing. So, I typed into google the search for "Hipster Cop" and there were (as I suspected) some legit hits. And... As it turns out is a real person or thing. see pic below...

His name is name is Rick Lee and he recently appeared scoffing aroung the "Occupy Wall Street... (Revolt?, Haha!)" protests. Rick is a 45-Year old community affairs detective and all he needs to do to prove it is sarcastically lift his anchor embroidered cardigan to reveal his badge and crocodile skin belt... Anyway, This guy is one of 2 things, a homosexual who has miraculously infiltrated the esteemed NYPD, or a Marketing plant from the NYPD to act as a buffer between the NYPD and the protestors. Here are some ridiculous pull quotes from his recent GQ interview:

The motivation to contact you came upon me not long after recieving a txt message from "753-5" (i'm thinking that something like "HAL" from 2001: Space Od.) saying... "Your data usage is among the top 5% of users. Data speeds for this bill cycle may be reduced...."

I responded with this, to which I have not received any response:
"Really? Well fuck me then I guess! My internet browser is basically useless. Insanely slow page loads... You think I have time to sit around my house and not masturbate? Well I don't, I no longer have the imagination of a 13 year old. I need to see such a specific thing at this point in my life... there is really no place other than the internet to get what I need to feed my dogs in the bone zone... you know what mean "753-5"?"

So I'm part of the top 5% of data users on your network, and my data package plan is grandfathered in to an unlimited package, which I pay $20 extra a month for, compared to the people who are not on the unlimited plan. The statistic I saw online claims that being part of that 5% means that I use 12 times more data than 95% of AT&T customers. That's a lot more data (12x) and a lot more of you (95%), who are not getting enough data! I'm like mother fuckin' Johnny 5, you stupid fucks! People who are not on an unlimited plan will pay fines if they go over their allotted data. So, what I theorized is this, You've got the extra $20 out of me no matter what, even now that you've bumped my signal down from 3G to 2G. Because your bandwidth is so shitty in the states, you aren't advanced enough to provide all your customers with the same service quality!? So, what should you do? Keep the extra $20 from the unlimited subscribers that consume a lot of data on your network, fuck them over by slowing the speeds of their service...AND THEN, figure out a way to suck more money out of the other 95% of your customers, by speeding up their service in the hopes more people will use data on a speedier network, probably, definitely increasing the amount of people that come in over there data plan, forcing them to pay an additional fee. It's pretty smart right? With 95% of your customers running on a slightly faster speed, while simply fucking over the remaining 5%, by slowing theirs, you have the potential to gain some serious returns on over limit fees.

Anyway, I hate your fucking guts, you guys are miserable cock sucking devils and I hope you all rot in fucking hell. Suck my dick!

So, I should be working right now... Computer Death Studios is a busy place. But, there is always more time and the work always gets done so, I might as well put a "CDWR" up here. I decided that I'm going to put some effort into becoming a wine snob, if for no other reason but to be more pretentious and dickish in social situations.

For CDWR No. 1 I will be interpreting some of my experiences with this Argentinian Malbec in blog form to see if it's something you should end up pouring into your drinkin' hole.

Bodega Elena de Mendoza 2010 Argentinia Malbec MSRP $69.00... er Around $10 I think

First things first, I noticed that the liquid is a deep red color, not like the "white or yellow wines", I believe is the way a sommelier might say it. Which leads me to believe that since I am a man, I've got the right color liquid in my drinking vessel. Men never drink yellow (or cold wines), that's for chicks only, something else you might hear from a world renowned sommelier. To chill your red a little, the proper etiquette would be to place one or two ice cubes in the glass, preferably from store or gas station purchased bag of ice... welcome to Fancyville Mayor McWinepants, you did it!

Here's what the label says:
"Bodega Elena de Mendoza is named after our family matriarch, Elena Napoli, whose parents emigrated from Italy to the heart of Argentina's wine country in the nineteenth century. Our bold, beautiful wines take full advantage of the altitude, eternally sunny skies, and mountain water unique to our home at the foot of the Andes. This Malbec is full of dark, intense flavors and pairs perfectly with grilled steak."

Not bad, but really it just sounds like you are bragging Bodega Elena de Mendoza. Here's what I'm getting from this Spicy Latina Vino. Right off the bat, I'm getting a strong taco bouquet as I breath in through my smelling tubes. It makes sense, because as you know the taco is the national symbol of Argentina... What else...? Well you've got a little bit of time while you wait for this to download, and good job for taking that step! The Summary is as follows:

After his wife falls under the influence of a drug dealer, an everyday guy transforms himself into Crimson Bolt, a superhero with the best intentions, though he lacks for heroic skills.

I know you may be thinking this is not a "new" concept, but I must remind you, NOTHING IS! I really loved Kick Ass, like a lot, I even blogged about it (see "Thoughts on a Movie No. 13) > But this was a similar concept much more well executed, on what I imagine was a much smaller budget. AND that's not to take away from quality talent: Rainn Wilson (The Office), Ellen Page (Juno), Liv Tyler (Big Mouthed Rock Star's Daughter) and of course "The Baconator" Kevin Bacon (Hallow Man and Footloose Pt. 1, sorry Kevo). Yeah... they are all in it! Kick-Ass was great on every level I didn't expect, so when I stumbled upon "Super" I was like, "well I'll just smoke some weed and watch it", little did I know that I was about to fall in love. Maybe it's just the emotional state that CDS5K is in, but this thing nailed it on every level for me. That's right "The Netherlands", over there in your ivory towers making wooden shoes and building some of the baddest kickboxers in the world! Sometimes CDS5K gets sad. But tell Bas Rutten we said hello. Mainly, I'd like to not give away anything that may ruin this for you but it manages to be much darker and real(er) than "Kick-Ass" as far as a "John Everyman" (I've really gotta stop using this term) Superhero movie can be. That's all I have to say as far as the movie itself goes. It did remind me of a news story I saw as I was getting dressed for Computer Death Sister's wedding a couple of weeks ago...

So, I was putting on my tuxedo for my sister's wedding and a news story happened on the picture screen, it was about a real life super hero! Phoenix Jones has apparently been macing hippies outside of Seattle bars after having one too many IPAs. There is a way to do it, and there is a way to not... Phoenix Jones... after targeting closing time bar shenanigan's, I do not respect you as a superhero. Really guy?, you're gonna dress up and put on this whole show to mace wasted people!? At least do what a superhero was meant to do, which to steal a line from the movie is: " All it takes to be a superhero is the choice to fight evil". Not be a muscley black guy in a costume and accost drunk (sheltered) white people outside of a micro brewery, are you out of your tits sir?! What's the reaction you'd expect? anyway the story to this asshole can be found here >

Bottom line is the movie was very good, and watch it , if you can squeeze it into your insignificant life.

I'll say 4.76 death marx out of 5... which is better than "Kick Ass" btw.

I had what is probably the craziest lucid dreaming session to date this morning that went on for about 3 or 4 hours! I would find myself in the dream and I was working things out inside my subconscious. For example, most of this all took place in my own house so I was confused a lot of the time as to whether or not I was awake. I remember at one point in the dream I was at the entry door to my garage and I thought to myself if I punch the wall it shouldn't hurt, so I did a few time in different locations the door, the wall and a steel post. There was a small sensation of pressure on my hand, but not pain. So I went one further and punched the light bulb next to the door it broke and popped with light but no pain, and no blood. This was just one of the few sessions I had this morning.

Each time I really started figuring a couple things out and starting to try and have some fun they slipped away and I ended up back in the sleep paralysis state. I can best describe this for me as a strange in between of being awake and aware of your real surroundings, like I can hear if a truck drives by my house or my heat kicks on or there is a fan going in my room. BUT there are also elements of subconscious that I can distinguish as not real, which means I am still lucid, Right? For example, this morning when I would slip out of a lucid dream, I'd get the sleep paralysis thing, where I know I am asleep but I can't wake myself up. I'll hear my heat kick on but then I also heard voices and people moving about my house. I know this sounds terrifying and I imagine it could be, but these were familiar voices, sounded or reminded me of family and friends. All the chatter is unintelligible and couldn't be made out, but it was definitely loud.

I had one session where I went straight from this sleep paralysis state into another full on visual lucid dream. For this one this morning I was in this paralysis state and heard my heating duct blowing, but there was a piece of paper that kept making this noise from the heat blowing on it. So I got out of bed, and it was a piece of blank vellum or tracing paper stuck between the wood frame and mirror. I know that this is not there in my waking life so I proceeded to walk around my house knowing I was in a dream state and see what I could do. I step out of my bedroom door and my living room is dark, I tell myself that I want to have sex and as I walk toward what appears to be a pile of blankets an anonymous naked woman is underneath them and I had sex with her. You're probably like, "Yeah fucking right dude! This isn't Weird Science where you can just make an anonymous woman to have sex with!" But, I did, and for the most part it felt like real sex. It was fleeting at best and I didn't C in my P's er anything, but for a short time it did happen. I hope this isn't getting to creepy, but I just wanna get everything down that I can because there is already so much I have forgotten, and it was one of the best examples of lucid dreaming I've ever had as far as control and manifestation goes.

I'm continuing to explore my own house and there is a boom box in the kitchen on the counter by my espresso machine, it's lit up in blue and totally working on its own, scrolling channels and things, I can't say I remember music or talking coming from it, but I know it came to rest on an AM station starting with 4 (which coincidentally is my favorite number) and having two other digits so AM 4??. I specifically tried to read numbers and words in my dream when I could remember to, because I've heard that you really can't do it. I felt like I was able to while I was dreaming, so who knows, I can't remember the radio station so... But that's about it. Again I hope I'm not weirding anyone out, but the subconscious mind is a fascinating subject to me and I feel like it might be a vastly untapped resource for gaining knowledge. Everything in a lucid dream still seems and feels very real, regardless of the fact you know you are dreaming or not. The only other thing I can say for sure about the rest of the experiences this morning is that I can say I went into sleep paralysis about 5-6 times and always when I was going from one dream to another. The other little details I can pull is that the light outside and in my house was apropos of the hours this was actually happening, Early morning dawn very blue, still dancing on the cusp of night (poetic).

Dark Matter, that orange belt through the center of the "all sky map" represents the location of the Dark Matter energy sources, and while scientists may have their theories of what Dark Matter actually is. I can say with great confidence that Dark Matter acts as inter-dementional/stellar/galactic/universal/megaversal portals to travel around these places at your leisure... Or it is a completely Parallel version of those previously mentioned things, making infinate layers and versions of everything we know, continuing on in an infinite reflective fractal. So that's set, looks like I just figured out the universe and stuff... Actually I did!... just figured out Dark Matter. Take that you pussy ass Theoretical & Astrophysicists of the world! I made this thingy last night and it's about a recurring dream I've had the last couple of months in which I am basically playing with a white snake, the first time on my kitchen floor, the second in my parent's basement. Basically, there is this white snake that keeps trying to bite me but it has no teeth and I just kinda keep fucking with it. There was one moment where it tried to start swallowing my thumb and index finger, but I just ripped it away and continued to basically tease this thing that definitely wanted to kill me. I understand this dream is ripe for metaphoric interpretation, but I don't believe we have any idea what the fuck our sub-conscience means, so I refuse to speculate on that. But I think there is a pretty good chance that someone close to me is trying to kill me... Oh shit... I guess this is where schizophrenia finally starts setting in. So, I was at the gymnasium this morning, trolling the locker room for wrinkly old dicks, and boy, did I hit the jackpot today! I typically don't frequent my gym during the earlier hours of the day and now I know why it should be avoided. Basically from the hours of 8am and 11am, the fitness center turns into some kind of social club for 60+ closeted homosexuals looking for a place to let it all hang out, and hopefully engage in some polite conversation. I'm by no means homophobic, I've been to the Pride Parade and have friends who have "chosen" (jk) to be gay, but come on guys, lets cover it up. This is by no means a new premise, this has been a long standing unfortunate social stigma amongst gym goers, yet every time I encounter it, I'm blown away. You can do whatever you want on your own time, but please don't treat this family friendly gym as you're own Turkish bath house. Anyway that's my little rant on guy's all but touching dicks in the locker room. For the last time, COVER IT UP! and never look me in the eyes. I created a term for this that I will submit to the all powerful Urban Dictionary...

The Perfect Movie Edition

I finally saw the movie I have been looking forward to ever since I knew of it's FINtastic existence, Shark Night 3D. Y'all know how very super much sharks mean to me. Not just in a "Hey Guy's, it's Shark Week..." kinda way, but more in the sense that they're all I ever think about, every day of my land loving life! My obsession can even be cripplingly irrational, to the point where I can't even go in lakes, pools or take a shower. That said, I basically lose my mind whenever a new shark movie is lurking on the horizon, and the case was no different for Shark Night 3D.

The story is a classic slasher film set up. A group of college co-eds are heading up to a lake house for the weekend for some kind of sinful booze-fueled sex party. Little do they know that the party is about to be brought to a bloody halt at the discovery of the fact this Louisiana salt water lake is teeming with killer sharks. I really don't need to say all that much more as far as summarizing the story, nor am I a fan of giving away spoiler's to the audience of CDS5K. But I believe you get the gist of where this all goes.

Overall, in addition to quenching my thirst for seeing twenty something stereotypes (The Black, Football star from the ghetto, gets it first... so, much for no spoilers), it was really pretty great visually as well. The 3D elements were great, and it's not just because of the weed okay, they really were. A lot of these movies are getting past the 3D gimmic of just having shit fly at you and focusing on creating rich color and depth. This is best illustrated by the sweeping aerial landscapes and underwater screen shots.

Shark Night is laughable most of the time, but in a good way, I'm giving it a 4.05 out of 5 deathmarx. See it in the theater in 3D!!

Today for lunch I enjoyed a delicious Lobster Roll from a local organic food store and cafe. Lobsters and I have had a long and jaded history. Much of my life has been spent despising them, and the fact that I watched a drunk and high gang of them rape and murder my Great Grandmother may have something to do with that. Ever since that night, I vowed to eat as many of these little monsters as I could. You are being avenged Great Grandma Ann! Slowly but surely, they took one of my family members... I will take thousands of theirs. In the words of DMX, if "You think this is a game? You think it's a fucking game?"... It is. A game called, I'm eating you!!! Anyway, in truth my sweet Grandma Ann was not raped and killed by Lobsters, it was old age or a stroke or something, I don't know, I was young. BUT lobsters are delicious and my first experience with the east coast famed "Lobster Roll" was a delight. It was $15, being independently wealthy and having no concept of the value of money, that means nothing to me. I don't know if that's cheap or expensive. The portion was healthy and served in a soft toasted bun with truffle mayonnaise. Get one if you can!

Here are some unknown facts about Lobster's:

Most of them do not speak Spanish.
Steve Jobs replacement as CEO will be a Lobster.
Lobsters usually can't wear pants.
The Sun is actually made entirely of Lobsters.
If you put a Lobster under your pillow at night, a huge Lobster will take it and replace it with an iPad. (I have 14 iPads if anyone wants to buy one, they're 1stGen tho...)

Movie Pitch Monday (Wednesday Edition)

I had this idea a few weeks back and put these quick poster mock-ups on I Shark Hearts, which is my other blog with an awesome name and bullshit content, that I made to basically RSS feed it to my "professional" website...

But CDS5K is where this MPM should be, along with the others.

So here's my pitch:
The current owner of his deceased father's once successful seafood restaurant is struggling to keep his business and himself alive. He's in over his head with the local Yakuza boss in loans and needs to find a way to make good on his debt. Yamaguchi (the Yakuza boss) throws Daitaro (the Restaurant owner and protagonist) a bone by arranging a meeting with some of his associates at a remote fishing cove. Yamaguchi assure's Daitaro that they can provide him with the quality fish his father would be proud to serve to his patrons, at a fraction of the cost. The Cove is located near an old WW2 restricted military base, which makes Daitaro hesitant, but is left with no other choice. After an agreement is made with Yamaguchi's shady connection, Daitaro can't believe the size, price and quality of the fish he will be serving in the restaurant. Over the next month, the restaurant has never been so busy and Daitaro is begining to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Everything is going great, until one night a costumer returns a few days after dining at the restaurant extremely ill. The man is almost incoherent demanding that he need more of the fish he had the other night to make him feel bettter... but he is too far gone and after a struggle at the front door, sinks his rotting teeth into the hostesses face, thus beginning the onset of a horrible plauge and the DAWN of the DEADLIEST CATCH!
